Packaging Digest - Electronic Nose May help sniff out brand piracy
October Issue - Cyrano Sciences Inc. and Bundesdruckerei GmbH have teamed up to combat product and brand piracy, which worldwide is estimated to cost industry about $250 billion per year. To secure goods of high value, Bundesdruckerei has devised and patented an innovative technology where a unique and gaseous security feature (scent) is typographically applied to a product. The scent can then be detected using Cyrano Sciences' "Electronic Nose." This security system will be launched in 2001 after completion of a test phase in fall 2000.
